Notes
Start in guard, with your opponent inside your legs. Decide which side you'll sweep to — for this example, the left side. Drop your left leg to the ground in a shrimp position, angling your body so your shoulder ends up perpendicular to your opponent. Extend your right leg (the opposite leg) so your shin presses against your opponent's torso. Create tension by pulling in with both arms (gripping your opponent) while simultaneously pushing out with your right leg against their torso. Execute the scissor motion: sweep your left leg (the one on the ground) inward, while your right leg (against the torso) moves in the opposite direction. Follow through to flip your opponent over and complete the sweep. Bonus variation: If the sweep isn't working with your left leg on the ground, lift that leg and kick out your opponent's knee first, then repeat the scissor motion.
